The otherwise commendable Pride of Scotland Awards broadcast on STV, was marred by a noticeable lack of linguistic diversity, according to singer Iona Fyfe. Both Scottish-born presenters adopted accents “which could only be described as Southern English”. Fyfe adds, “Now, before I’m accused of spreading “anti-English sentiment”, this is not a question of nationality and eligibility to present an awards ceremony based on place of birth – this is a question of linguistic diversity”.
