The “Immortal Memory” is the main speech of a Burns Supper which aims to explain the reasons why Burns is so important and why his memory should be handed on from generation to generation. The speech should draw out the important aspects of Burns’ ideas and highlight why they are still relevant today. As the last of my Burns postings (for now) here is a really good example from this weekend by Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs Fiona Hylsop.
