New Scots Scriever

During the 12-month residency, the new Scriever Shane Strachan will create original works in Doric, or North East Scots. With access to the rich Scots language collections at the National Library of Scotland, Strachan will also work to promote the Doric language. The residency is hosted by the National Library and funded by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
An active creative practitioner in his native Aberdeen, Strachan works across a range of disciplines and with the local community, facilitating creative workshops. He also holds a doctorate in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen and was previously awarded a Scottish Book Trust Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. Strachan’s appointment follows the success of the 2021 Orkney Scriever residency, held by writer Alison Miller. (Scots Radio)
